Interview: How to handle a sedentary job? Sitting and standing.

Many people today are trying to solve their sedentary jobs with a standing desk. And that's great. But standing all day instead of sitting doesn't solve the problem. There is no ideal position in which we should stay for a long time. The body mainly needs to change positions and receive small impulses to move throughout the day.

The body is very adaptive. It adapts to what we do most often.
And if we sit most of the day, the body adjusts accordingly: it stiffens, limits range, overuses certain muscles, and “turns off” others. This then leads to back pain, neck pain, or a feeling of fatigue, even when we’ve actually just been sitting.

And maybe you're thinking: "I'll catch up with sports."
But a one-time hour at the gym or a jog after work won't replace eight hours of inactivity. Compensation doesn't work on the principle of "what was missing, I'll make up for it." It works on the principle of regularity throughout the day.

What helps in a normal working day

  • Alternate sitting and standing every 20-40 minutes (briefly, not all at once).
  • Consciously breathe into your ribs – your chest should be mobile.
  • Get up and walk around when making phone calls.
  • Pay attention to your hips and chest – that’s where we “close up” most often.

It’s not about performance. It’s not about perfect posture.
It's about small, regular impulses, that keep your body functional.

What to take from this

The body remembers everything we repeat every day.
And the good news is that you only need to start small.

Do you sit all day? Your body remembers. But you can change it.
And we at SPINEZIO are happy to guide you through it.
